Pray for the World is an Android app created by JohnTibell.com. When you pray, a light appears on a shared world map, so we can see that we pray together.
YOU ARE ANONYMOUS, YOUR EXACT LOCATION NEVER LEAVES YOUR PHONE, AND YOU CAN DELETE EVERYTHING AT ANY TIME.
What the app keeps:
• An anonymous account (a random ID) created on first launch. No name, email or phone number is needed. If you link a Google account, it is only used to keep your prayer journey on a new phone.
• Your prayers: when each began and ended, and what it was for (the world, a country or a prayer request). This builds your journey and the shared counters.
• Your time zone and app language, so your prayer days and notifications are right.
• Posts you share, and which posts you prayed for or said Amen to.
• A notification token, if you allow notifications.
• Anonymous usage statistics and crash reports. No advertising ID is collected, and there are no ads.
What others can see:
While you pray, others see a light on the map (near your city, in your country, or not at all, as you choose) and what you are praying for. Your posts show their text, the name you typed (if any) and, if you chose it, your country. Nothing public shows your account ID, and your light is never linked to your posts.
Location:
Only if you choose "Near my city" does the app ask for your approximate location. Before anything is saved or shared, it is rounded to a grid of about 20 km, and only that rounded point and the nearest place name are used. The app never asks for your precise location.
Where it is stored:
Data is stored with Google Firebase (Realtime Database, Authentication, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging, Analytics and Crashlytics) on Google's servers in the United States. Nothing is sold or shared for advertising.
How long:
A light disappears from the map when you finish praying; finished prayers remain as faint embers for 24 hours. Your journey and posts stay until you delete them.
Deleting your data:
In the app, open More, scroll to Account, tap Delete my data and confirm. This permanently deletes, at once: your account (and the link to your Google account, if you made one), your prayer journey, your posts, your "I prayed" and "Amen" reactions, any reports you filed, your light on the map, your notification token and your settings on the server.
Shared counters such as "1,204 prayers today" keep their totals; they contain no personal data. Anonymous crash reports and usage statistics are kept by Google Firebase for a limited time and are not linked to your posts or your light on the map.
Can't open the app any more? Email us from the Google account you linked (or tell us roughly when you used the app and the name you posted with), and we will delete your data within 30 days.
