Late one Wednesday we were told that we had to be out of our temporary house by Friday. Four of the children were sick.
The next morning I suddenly became very calm and peaceful about it. As if God said: I got this, relax.
A little later I logged in to the computer, and a message was waiting: “John I get a house for you in my village for free and we can help out with food. 2 bedroom and bathroom with kitchen.”
An hour later the man who had written it came to our door with his wife. They said they wanted to help because that is what Jesus would have done.
So we moved to their village, Haʻalalo. On our third morning there we didn't have much for breakfast: crackers, some milk powder and cocoa. Both of the small shops were closed. Just as we sat down to eat, we heard a voice outside, calling my name. Our new friends from the village stood there with fruit in their hands. Watermelons, papayas, tomatoes and peppers. Lots of it.
Mālō ʻaupito.
